So I’m contemplating making an attempt at the “daily photo” thing….
I absolutely believe that the best way to improve is to practice, practice, practice. And at the same time, I’ve become lazy about taking “real” photos of my own kids, around the house, etc. Instead, I just use my iPhone to capture the moment, and share it through Instagram/Facebook/ Twitter/email for immediate gratification. And I love doing that. But I love the real deal even more.
So why the heck am I leaving my camera in my office between client photo sessions?
Case in point:
The other day, I took a few shots on my iPhone of my boys being silly and pressing their faces on the shower door, because it made me smile. I even shared it with grandparents and it made them smile too. I love that.
Then last night, they were doing the same thing, and a light bulb went off in my head. What if I actually took a quality photo, with my REAL camera? Wouldn’t that be something? (Duh!)

They weren’t hamming it up quite as well this time, but I do really love this single image (and a couple of others). And I’m OK with having just one. I’m more than OK with that. Because what if I had just one image from every day of the year? How cool would it be to make a 2012 album at the end of the year with good, personal photos? As if there were a real-deal professional Photographer living with our family. (Wait – there IS!) Not to mention that all that practice would help me improve on my craft that much more, right?
So what do you think? Have you ever tried a photo-a-day project? How did it go? Any tips, especially in the way of getting them uploaded/edited/shared in a timely manner? Please share!
