Sometimes, out of nowhere, I get one of those sessions that reminds me THIS IS WHY I LOVE MY JOB! We took a few photos of this sweet boy at home and then headed outdoors for a mix of scenery. Outside, while mom was snuggling on him and I was all in my zone, I stopped to show her the back of my camera – something I try not to do for a lot of reasons, but sometimes I get excited. She took a quick glance, and looked straight up at my eyes and said with the most sincere tone, “Thank you. Thank you, Zoe.” My eyes welled up with tears. YES! I don’t want to be just some Photographer taking some pictures of a cute baby in a Gap sweater. I want to capture to the best of my ability the love she has for her son, and the gratitude she has that he is in their life. I want emotion to ooze through the photos when she looks at them in another 50 years. That’s not always easy, but when it happens, shit. That’s what it’s about. (Pardon my language.)
