galveston | family beach trip

10.10.2013

I sometimes hesitate to share some things on this blog. It’s primarily a photography business website, and a portfolio of my work.  But, it’s also very much a part of my own personal journey with photography. Lately, that journey has been about exploring and learning film photography… How to expose for the look I want, which film I’d choose for various scenarios, how the light shines differently on film than it does on a digital sensor, and more thoughtful compositions before hitting that shutter.

So just before school started, we took the boys on a quick weekend trip to Galveston.  Neither of them had been to a beach before, and they had an absolute blast.  While there, I shot a single roll of Kodak Portra 160 in the bright sun, and learned a bit more about this film stuff.  These images mean so much to me as both a mom and a Photographer, always learning and growing.

Side note: Galveston is not the prettiest. Maybe I’ll shoot black and white next time. Or visit a nicer beach.  :-)
