Seems like just yesterday I was at this family’s house doing Ella’s newborn photo session. So honored to have been asked to photograph her again with her new baby sister Olivia. Daddy’s definitely got his hands full with these two cute baby girls and their gorgeous mama. :-)

This big brother was one of my first newborn babies that I ever photographed, nearly three years ago. I remember driving away from this family’s home that (ridiculously hot) day and thinking I was way out of my league, and worried that I had done them a huge disservice. (Side note: when I got home, I realized the pictures were much better than I expected. We did get some lovely photos!) I realized that I needed to really buckle down and learn how to create newborn photos the way I envisioned them, or to not photograph newborn babies anymore. I chose to focus on that weakness, and learn even more about photographing newborns. To practice, to study, and to practice some more. I’m still learning, still practicing – at all of it. Getting better with each and every newborn, baby, child or family photo session I do. The light, the lenses, and now film. It’s a never-ending journey. One that I love.

When I went back to photograph baby boy number two last month, I felt like it was a chance to see how far I’d come. And thankfully, I did not drive away thinking that I’d done a terrible job this time. I drove away worrying about how many images I was going to have to choose between. :-)

I adore this family. They are so laid-back, and easy to be around. And wow, mom & dad make some really beautiful babies that I could photograph all day long. I hope they have a few more. ;-)

So glad I got to see this little guy and his family again, just days from his 2nd birthday. They are SO much fun, and we genuinely laughed our way through the photo session. :-)

Pssst – by the way, did you know that if you’ve had a full session (newborn or otherwise), you’re eligible for a mini session for just $100 within a year? And you get a discount on your digital files or prints. It’s an easy way to get an “update” for your child or family photos, especially for those little ones that change so fast.

That last one is my favorite. :-)

One of the best parts of my “job” as a dallas newborn photographer is seeing a couple become parents for the first time. There’s a certain vibe that just can’t be described – where awe, exhaustion, bliss, anxiety, and LOVE collide.

I am struggling. My “baby” is a big boy, and I’m in complete denial. Don’t get me wrong – I’m glad to be done having children, but I will miss all those baby-ish little moments in our own home, as they’re quickly being replaced with wrestling matches and Lego towers. Among my favorite moments to capture are watching my own children sleep (which is rare, since I don’t want to risk waking them) and bathtime.

These were taken the morning of October 31 – just days shy of Max’s 2nd birthday. I photographed him very similarly about a year ago (here), also when I caught him asleep and needed to wake him. I just couldn’t resist a capturing few more.

This mom is a dear friend of mine, and it’s been so much fun seeing her pregnant (for what seemed like more than a year) with baby boy number two and chatting about what it’s like to have two little guys running around. I know they’ll grow to be the best of friends, just as I’m watching my own sons do.
And because big brother was really pushing for the name Dragon, we just had to do this:

I met up with this great couple just days after our snowy Christmas, for a half session of outdoor maternity photos. And I’m so glad. These days just before that sweet baby arrives will soon be difficult to recall. :-)
